Translation Immigration Book
Translation Immigration is a collaborative book made during a 2019 study abroad program in the Netherlands. This book is the culmination of work highlighting the creative voices of all the graphic designers in the study program. We were prompted to create pages that show our interpretation of “Translation," which was the theme of that years program. Together we created a visually abstract book through letterpress and risograph printing processes.
My personal interpretation of “Translation” came in the sense being lost in translation. While traveling, having to navigate different languages, cultures and urban layouts can give one a feeling of being adrift. As humans, when we feel lost we look for things of comfort or things that ground us. I spent a portion of my time in the Netherlands looking for my things of comfort but also recognizing what others might view as things of comfort.
